[edit] Searchbastard v.1.0b3, checklist for testers

This list is outdated

This checklist is intended for testers, so they can verify that the add-on works. I have only tested the plugin on the Windows platform, and would appreciate testing on Mac and Linux.

  • You can open "settings" from add-on list
  • In settings, you can add groups to arrangements, and engines to groups
  • You can place the "toolbox" arrangement anywhere you want in the toolbox
  • By default, the "toolbox" arrangement is placed as the last item on the navigation bar
  • You can resize the searchbox with the slider. The size is stored across sessions
  • Right-clicking on an engine icon brings up a context menu. All functions works
  • Right-clicking on a group brings up a context menu. All functions works
  • Its possible to arrange engines by dragging the icons. You can drag between the two arrangements.
  • When you rearrange the engines, they are rearranged in all windows
  • You can make an engine-search by dragging text to an engine icon
  • You can make a group search by dragging to a group
  • When you perform a drag like above, and hold down ctrl when you drop, the search is per default opened in a new tab
  • You can modify this behaviour in the "Events" tab in General settings
  • Selection search works
  • Addressbar search works. (Set an alias on a group and an engine, enter the alias followed by a search word in the addressbar, hit enter)
  • Right-clicking on the status icon (bottom-right corner) brings up a context menu. All functions works
  • multisearch-tab works
  • multisearch-frames works
  • You can resize frames in "multisearch-frames". The sizes are stored across sessions
  • You can edit the frame layout by clicking "Edit layout" below the frames. Its now possible to change between four main layouts: columns, rows, matrix and custom. All of them works. You can assign the engines to the cells
  • When opening an engine, or a group in the sidebar, you can change sidebar width. The width is stored across sessions
  • You can open an engine in an editor by clicking "Open in editor". First time you do this, you will be asked to locate an editor
  • Per default, the wikipedia searchbastard engine is installed
  • You can install more engines, by rightclicking the searchbastard icon, and selecting "Find new searchbastard engines", or by opening it from the settings
  • You can quickly test an engine by doubleclicking on it in the list
  • "Webpage", "Src", "Test", and "Install" works.
  • You can install more than one engine at a time, - its a multiselect
  • ... the list is not complete. Please play around in settings, and see if stuff acts like its supposed to.
  • ... If you want to create your own Searchbastard engines, take a look at the sourcecode of "Example" (found on "rosell" provider)
  • ... If you do create a useful Searchbastard engine, concider emailing it to me (searchbastard (at) rosell.dk), and I will concider publishing it on the "rosell" provider
  • ... If you create your own provider, email me, and I will concider adding you as a default provider
  • ... The provider feature is created in hope that someone will create a site like userscripts.org. If you do want to do that, I would gladly cooperate, if you need more features.
  • ... Q:"wow, thats a lot of features, and you claim this to be a lightweight add-on?". A: "Yes. Only a minimal number of features is loaded at start-up. The rest are loaded as needed. (4 modules: 'common', 'dragdrop','contextmenu' and 'edit')"

Please report the bugs on the Bugs page. Please add suggestions to the either Feature requests, Engine requests or General suggestions

By the way, I have just nominated the add-on. See Nomination text

[edit] Linux result (Ubuntu 8.0.4.1)

Generally, things work. The stuff that doesnt is minor annoyances.

I went through the entire list, except that I didnt open it in an editor (im new to linux)

Failed:

  • By default, the "toolbox" arrangement is placed as the last item on the navigation bar (But it IS possible to add it manually)
  • Right-clicking on an engine icon brings up a context menu. All functions works (It didnt come up the first time, but it DID come up second time)
  • The comboboxes in searchbastard engine header looks strange
  • Using the firefox standard searchfield along with a toolbar doesnt work
  • The "edit layout" button looks funny
